If you’re a contractor or project manager, you already know how quickly a job site can go sideways without the right equipment in place. And storage is no exception. Whether you need to lock up tools overnight or keep sensitive equipment out of the elements, a storage container needs to show up fast.
So, how fast can you actually get one delivered? Let’s break it down.
The Short Answer: Often Within 24–48 Hours
At AT&S, we’re built for speed. In most cases, once your order is confirmed and your site is ready to receive a container, we can get it to you within 24 to 48 hours. That said, a handful of factors can affect that timeline. Knowing them ahead of time is the easiest way to keep your project on schedule.
What Affects Delivery Speed?
– Inventory Availability: The most common factor is simply whether the right container (size, condition, type) is available at your nearest AT&S location. We operate out of Kansas City, Omaha, St. Louis, Springfield, Dallas, Des Moines + the Quad Cities, so chances are good we have what you need close by. The earlier you call, the more options you’ll have.
– Your Distance from Our Lot: Job sites within our local service areas can usually be prioritized for same-day or next-day delivery. If you’re further out, give us a heads up with as much lead time as you can.
– Scheduling Driver Availability: During peak construction season (we’re entering that season), demand goes up. Calling ahead makes a real difference in locking in your preferred delivery window.
– Site Readiness: Your container can be loaded on the truck and ready to roll, but if your site isn’t prepped when the driver arrives, it creates delays. More on that below.
Site Prep Checklist
A little prep goes a long way. Here’s what to have in order before your delivery window.
– Clear access for the delivery truck. Our trucks need enough room to maneuver. Check your entry points and make sure there are no low-hanging wires, narrow gates, or obstacles blocking the route.
– A firm, level surface. Containers need to be placed on stable, level ground: gravel, asphalt, concrete, or compacted dirt all work well. Soft or uneven terrain can cause placement problems.
– Know your placement spot ahead of time. Decide exactly where you want the container before the driver arrives. Repositioning takes time and may not always be possible depending on the site layout.
– Permits cleared. If your job site requires a permit for an on-site storage unit, handle that in advance.
– Someone on-site to receive the delivery. The driver will need to coordinate placement. Have a point of contact available during the delivery window.
How to Avoid Delays
Here are the most common reasons deliveries get pushed back:
– Ordering too late. Give us as much notice as possible, especially in spring and summer when demand peaks.
– Changing the delivery location at the last minute. Lock in your address early and double-check it when you place the order.
– Site not ready on arrival. Use the checklist above (it saves everyone time).
– Unclear site access. If your job site has specific entry points, gate codes, or restrictions, share all of that when you call.
